Vétroz lies in the Rhône valley, a few minutes from Sion with its airport, castle hills and railway station. The commune is known for wine, including the Amigne grape, and sits at the foot of vineyards below the Alps. Ski areas such as Nendaz are within reach, and the Valais is generally sunny and dry. Buyers are mainly people working in Sion, plus second-home hunters pursuing mountain access without paying resort prices.
The valley floor can be hot in summer and subject to road noise, so choose carefully.
Under Lex Koller, non-resident foreigners cannot freely buy homes in Switzerland. Holiday properties are allowed only in designated areas within cantonal quotas, and Valais applies its own rules on top. Residents with the right permit can buy a primary home. Add cantonal transfer duty and notary costs. Ask a Valais notary whether a specific flat qualifies.
