Hacienda Pinilla is a large resort and residential development on the Guanacaste Pacific coast, near the beaches south of Tamarindo and close to surf spots such as Playa Avellanas. It includes a golf course, a beach club and gated residential neighbourhoods. Liberia's international airport is roughly an hour away by road, depending on the route.
The dry season runs from roughly December to April, and the green season brings afternoon rain. Buyers are mostly North American and European second-home owners, retirees and some investors seeking rental income from villas.
Foreigners can buy titled property in Costa Rica on the same terms as citizens. The coastal strip is special, since land near the shore is state-controlled and held through concession, so verify that a lot in a resort is fully titled and outside concession land. Resort communities add association fees and design rules. Transfer taxes and registration fees come to a few percent, and annual property tax is low. Hire an independent attorney, not one proposed by the seller.
