Corroios is part of the Seixal municipality in the Setúbal peninsula. Road links cross the Tagus to Lisbon, and the ferry from nearby Seixal also helps. Almada and Barreiro are neighbouring south-bank towns, while Lisbon is the main city across the river. Amadora, Odivelas and São Domingos de Rana are north-bank suburbs, further away, so they are different markets.
Before buying, obtain a NIF, open a bank account and have a lawyer verify the property register (certidão permanente) and the habitation licence. Transfer tax (IMT) for non-residents was reported to move to a flat 7.5% in 2026, and stamp duty is 0.8%. The golden-visa property route has been closed since October 2023. See the Portugal guide and mortgage rules.
Lisbon-area flats often come with licences (licença de utilização) that must be issued; ask for it and for the energy certificate. Ask for the condominium minutes and the reserve fund. Commuting by road across the river can be slow at peak, so test your route. For investment, look at demand from Lisbon workers priced out of the capital.
