A spa town with a past
Tskaltubo was a celebrated Soviet health resort with large sanatorium buildings, mineral baths and a park. Many sanatoria are now derelict, which shapes the town's atmosphere and the local property market. Nearby attractions include the Prometheus Cave and Okatse canyon, and Kutaisi airport has low-cost flights to Europe, so access is easier than the location suggests.
Kutaisi is the real neighbour and service hub. Zugdidi, Poti, Ureki, Ozurgeti and Ambrolauri are other western Georgian markets, farther away.
