Port Moody has a compact waterfront, craft breweries, trails and the Evergreen Line SkyTrain extension, which links it to Burnaby and Vancouver. The Inlet Centre area has the most condo towers, while the hillside neighbourhoods like Heritage Mountain and College Park offer larger homes.
Nearby cities: Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam share the same corridor, Burnaby and New Westminster are closer to central Vancouver, and Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge are further east and cheaper.
Two layers apply. First, the national prohibition on non-Canadians buying homes, set to end on 1 January 2027 on current terms. Second, BC's foreign buyer tax of 20%, charged in Metro Vancouver (which includes Port Moody) on top of the ordinary property transfer tax. Permanent residents, provincial nominees and certain workers are treated differently, so check which category you are in. Read the Canada guide and finance page as well.
