If you want a lock-up-and-leave holiday home, start with apartments in Spain and penthouses. For private gardens and pools, look at villas.
Pilar de la Horadada is the last municipality in Alicante province before the border with Murcia, with the beach area of Torre de la Horadada on its coast. It is a year-round Spanish town with services, markets and an established foreign community rather than a purely tourist strip. Alicante-Elche airport is the main gateway, and the Murcia region's airport is also reasonably close.
Buyers are mainly northern Europeans looking for winter sun, retirees, and families who want a calmer base than Torrevieja or Benidorm.
In the Valencian Community, resale purchases attract transfer tax (ITP, 9% from 1 June 2026 and 11% above €1 million), while new builds carry 10% VAT plus stamp duty (AJD). Add notary, registry and legal fees, and annual IBI property tax. You need an NIE number before you can sign. The Spanish golden visa ended on 3 April 2025, so a purchase will not secure residency by itself.
Our Spain buying guide and Spain mortgage guide explain the process, and you can test repayments with the mortgage calculator.
San Pedro del Pinatar and La Manga del Mar Menor lie just south in Murcia. To the north, Torrevieja, Rojales, Guardamar del Segura and Orihuela are close alternatives. See the Spain overview for the national picture.

It depends on the property type. Our median here is €267,516, so compare the Torrevieja page and filter by apartment or villa for a fair comparison.
Typically ITP of 9% (from 1 June 2026; 11% above €1 million) in the Valencian Community, plus notary, registry and legal fees. New builds carry VAT instead. Confirm rates with your gestor or lawyer.
Yes. The NIE is a foreigner's tax identification number and is needed for the purchase, taxes and utilities.
No. The golden visa programme ended on 3 April 2025, so residency would need to come through another route.
