All 52 listings are houses. Three-bedroom homes (25) and four-bedroom homes (20) dominate, with 3 each of two and five-plus bedrooms and 1 of one. The tight range of €255,321 to €374,592 points to a steady market of family homes in Hāwera and surrounding towns. See New Zealand houses and townhouses.
South Taranaki is a dairy, gas and energy district on the west coast of the North Island, in the shadow of Mount Taranaki. Hāwera is the main town, and smaller centres include Eltham, Pātea and Ōpunake. The region of Taranaki is the broader reference market, with New Plymouth the regional city. Auckland and Waikato are far to the north and operate as different markets. Buyers are mostly local families, farm workers and energy-sector staff, attracted by lower prices than Auckland.
The ban on overseas purchases of existing homes applies here as everywhere in the country. The one 2026 change is that, from 6 March, an Active Investor Plus holder can seek consent to buy a single home worth more than NZ$5 million, which is irrelevant at South Taranaki prices. Australian and Singaporean citizens and resident-visa holders living in New Zealand are generally outside the ban. There is no stamp duty, but short holding periods can trigger the bright-line test on profits, so ask an adviser about the current period.

Generally not, unless you are exempt. Existing homes are closed to most overseas buyers.
Regional demand is lower than in Auckland, and the economy rests on dairy and energy.
