City and countryside
Lucca's Renaissance walls, now a tree-lined promenade, enclose a centre of piazzas and churches, with Puccini's birthplace and a lively market scene. Beyond the walls are the hills of the Lucchesia and the Garfagnana mountains, plus the Versilia coast. Pisa airport is about 30 minutes away.
Look at Capannori on the plain next to the city, Pisa, Forte dei Marmi (a very high-end seaside resort), Pistoia, Prato and Livorno.
