Wexford is a harbour town with a narrow main street, an opera house famous for its autumn festival and long beaches such as Curracloe nearby. Rosslare Europort, with ferries to Wales and France, is about 20 minutes away. Enniscorthy and Gorey are the county's other main towns, and Waterford and Kilkenny are larger regional centres. Arklow and Wicklow lie north along the coast.
The train to Dublin is slow, so many buyers are retirees, returning Irish and remote workers rather than daily commuters.
Budget for a survey, solicitor fees and Land Registry fees, plus the annual local property tax. If you buy a rural home, test the septic tank and check the water source, and for any older house ask about damp and the heating system. Coastal exposure means roofs and windows take more weather than inland, so inspect them carefully.
Foreign buyers face no special restrictions. Stamp duty on residential property is 1% of the price up to €1m, and a solicitor handles contracts, searches and registration. Surveys matter on older stock, especially for damp, wiring and septic tanks in rural properties. Ask for the Building Energy Rating.
