Filter by house or apartment on the national pages, or look at land if you want to build.
Ancaster combines a historic village core with ravine lots, newer subdivisions and estate-style streets on the escarpment edge. It is popular with professionals who work in Hamilton, Burlington or the Greater Toronto Area, and it is near McMaster University and its hospitals. The Hamilton Conservation Authority trails and the Dundas Valley are close by.
Nearby places include Hamilton itself, Stoney Creek, Binbrook, Waterdown, Burlington and Brantford to the west. Each is its own market with its own price level, so compare them side by side.
This matters a great deal. Canada's federal ban on foreign purchases of residential property runs to 1 January 2027, with no extension announced at the time of writing, though a replacement framework has been reported. Ontario also applies a 25% Non-Resident Speculation Tax on residential purchases by foreign nationals. Exemptions exist for certain permit holders and permanent residents, and the rules have changed repeatedly, so take legal advice before offering.
Our Canada buying guide explains the current position and financing for foreigners covers lending. Check the wider market on the Canada overview.
Verify your eligibility under the federal and Ontario rules first. Ask your lawyer about Ontario land transfer tax, and Hamilton's municipal land transfer tax where it applies. Use the property valuation tool for a sanity check on asking prices.

The federal foreign-buyer ban is in force until 1 January 2027, with exceptions for some workers, students and permanent residents. Ontario's 25% NRST is separate. Confirm your status with a Canadian real estate lawyer before you view homes.
Ancaster is a community within the amalgamated City of Hamilton, but its housing stock and prices differ from the lower city. Municipal taxes follow Hamilton.
The median listing is 222 m² and mostly detached, because the area was developed with big lots and executive housing. Smaller options exist but are only about one in ten listings.
Brantford is a separate market on our site, so check its page directly. Many buyers weigh Ancaster's setting and commuting position against what other towns offer.
Ontario land transfer tax applies to every buyer, and some cities add their own. A foreign national may also face the NRST if allowed to buy. Ask your lawyer for a full closing-cost estimate.
