Waterdown is a former village that is now part of the City of Hamilton, on the Niagara Escarpment near Bruce Trail routes and Smokey Hollow Waterfall. It sits close to Burlington and the QEW and Highway 403, which links to Toronto and the Niagara region. The historic centre on Dundas Street has a village feel, surrounded by newer subdivisions.
Buyers are mostly families who want more space than Burlington or Oakville offer at lower cost, plus commuters on the GO transit network.
Canada's federal foreign-buyer ban runs to 1 January 2027, and the area falls within a metropolitan region where it is more likely to apply. Ontario's non-resident speculation tax of 25% has also applied, so non-residents should confirm with an Ontario lawyer before committing. Land transfer tax is payable, and Hamilton does not add a municipal land transfer tax of the kind Toronto charges (verify locally).

Burlington is adjacent to the south-east, and Hamilton is the host city. Ancaster and Stoney Creek are other Hamilton districts. Oakville and Milton are a bit farther east.
