The old town (Barri Vell), with its colourful houses over the Onyar river, sits across from the shopping district around the Mercadal and Eixample. The AVE and regional trains reach Barcelona in well under an hour and a half, the airport is close, and the Pyrenees and beaches are both within about an hour. Buyers include remote workers, retirees and investors who prefer it to Barcelona's prices.
Coastal alternatives include Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Roses, all within the same province. Barcelona, Sitges and Terrassa are further south and are better viewed as separate markets.
