Buyer's guide: Hammonds Plains
If you want space and lake views within commuting range of the city, Hammonds Plains real estate is one of the Halifax area's most popular suburbs. Our 53 listings have a median asking price of €500,784 (asking prices, converted to euros, from current listings on RealEstateAbroad), and 48 of them are houses.
We do not have floor-area data for this sample, so there is no usable price per m². The price range is still informative.
| Indicator | Value |
|---|---|
| Median asking price | €500,784 |
| Middle half (p25 to p75) | €423,055 to €561,023 |
| Houses / land | 48 / 5 |

This is almost entirely detached housing: 48 houses and 5 plots of land. Four-bedroom homes are the most common (22 listings), followed by three-bedroom (14), five-plus (10) and two-bedroom (2). That points to family buyers looking for larger homes, often on treed lots. If you prefer a condo, the Canada apartment listings cover the rest of the country.
Hammonds Plains is a suburban and semi-rural community in the Halifax Regional Municipality, along Hammonds Plains Road north-west of Bedford. Subdivisions sit among lakes and forest, many homes are on private wells and septic systems, and the drive to downtown Halifax is usually under half an hour outside of rush hour. Neighbouring areas include Bedford and Middle Sackville, while Dartmouth and Halifax are the main employment centres. Bridgewater and Truro are separate towns an hour or more away, useful as comparison markets.
Before buying, ask about well water quality, septic condition and winter road maintenance, as these matter more here than in the urban core.
Canada's federal foreign-buyer ban runs to 1 January 2027, so non-resident buyers should confirm eligibility first. Nova Scotia also charges a deed transfer tax set by the municipality, so confirm the Halifax rate and any non-resident surcharge with a lawyer. Provincial property taxes can differ for non-resident owners, which is worth checking.
Our Canada buying guide outlines closing steps, and the financing page explains mortgage options for newcomers. See the Canada overview for other provinces.

It is a community inside the Halifax Regional Municipality, so you pay municipal tax to Halifax even though it feels more rural than the peninsula.
Many do. Always test the water, inspect the septic system and ask about its age before making an offer.
Under the federal ban, running to 1 January 2027, most foreign nationals cannot. Citizens and permanent residents can buy normally.
Usually 25 to 35 minutes by car, longer at rush hour or in winter weather.
