Buyer's guide: Antioch
Antioch is the eastern end of the Bay Area's commuter belt, on the San Joaquin River and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. RealEstateAbroad shows 170 properties for sale in Antioch, with a median asking price of €580,586.
Figures are from current listings on RealEstateAbroad and are asking prices, converted from dollars to euros.

| Middle 50% range | €463,973 to €661,541 |
| Median price per m² | €3,117 |
| Median size | 176 m² |
Of 170 listings, 165 are houses and just five are apartments, so Antioch is a detached-home market. Three-bedroom homes (66) and four-bedroom (57) dominate, followed by five-plus (33) and two-bed (14). Narrow price spread, with the upper quartile well under €700,000, shows homogeneous suburban stock rather than luxury. See wider options under houses in the United States.
A median home of 176 m² is generous by European standards; the price per m² of €3,117 is considerably lower than in coastal Bay Area cities, and that gap is the market's selling point.
Antioch has a BART station on the eBART extension that runs to Pittsburg and the main Bay Area network, plus highway 4 for drivers, so long commutes are normal. The Delta offers boating and fishing. Neighbours close by include Pittsburg, Oakley, Brentwood and Discovery Bay. Further west, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek cost more and are a different tier of market.
Summers are hot and dry compared with the coast, and air conditioning is considered standard. Schools vary by district and street, so check the specific attendance zone for any house you are considering. Investors should compare rental yields with the higher-priced west of the region, where rents are higher but so are prices.
Anyone can buy in California without residency. Property tax is about 1% of the purchase price plus assessments, and insurance, particularly wildfire cover, has become costlier in parts of the state. Investors should check rent control rules and local ordinances. See our US mortgage guide and buying guide, then return to the United States overview.
