Albir has a promenade, the Sierra Helada natural park behind it and a long-established community of northern European residents, particularly British and Scandinavian. Villa estates sit on hillsides with sea views, while apartments cluster around the coast. Alicante airport is roughly 50 minutes away.
Close by are Altea, Benidorm, Villajoyosa, La Nucía, Polop and Finestrat, which are all within a short drive.
Non-residents need an NIE tax number before they can sign. In the Valencian Community, a resale usually triggers ITP transfer tax of 9% (from 1 June 2026; 11% above €1 million), and a new-build triggers 10% VAT plus 1.4% stamp duty, though rates can change. Notary, registry and legal fees come on top. Spain's golden visa ended in April 2025, so buying no longer secures residency.
Check for a licence of first occupation, legal access to the plot and any urbanisation debts. Our Spain guide, mortgage page and Spain overview explain the process.
