A median size of 154 m² reflects family flats in older palazzi and detached houses in the surrounding countryside.

Piacenza is an unglamorous but liveable city with arcaded streets, a Gothic town hall (Palazzo Gotico) on Piazza Cavalli and a real local economy built on logistics, agriculture and food. The rail link makes Milan commutable, and the A1 and A21 motorways cross here. Wine hills in the Val Trebbia and Val Nure are within half an hour.
Genuine regional neighbours in our data include Pavia and Parma, with Milan, Brescia and Bergamo a longer drive or train ride away. Desenzano del Garda is a lake market and a different proposition.
Taxes depend on whether the home is a primary residence and on the cadastral value. Registration tax on a resale second home is approximately 9%, and 2% for a qualifying primary residence; agency fees of around 3% to 4% plus VAT, and notary costs, add to this. These are approximate, so verify with a notary. Non-EU buyers may be subject to a reciprocity requirement.

Considerably. The median here is €1,521 per m², and Milan is a separate and far pricier market.
About an hour by fast train.
Yes, many flats are in older buildings. Check structural condition and condominium rules.
Roughly 9% registration tax on resale, plus notary and agency costs; verify the figures locally.
The large floor areas and the quieter pace suit families wanting space close to Milan.
