A GO train line serves Georgetown, with services toward Toronto's Union Station at peak times, and the 401 is close. The Credit River valley and Niagara Escarpment give outdoor space. Neighbouring markets include Milton, Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, Erin and Guelph.
Town life is centred on Georgetown's main street and Acton's smaller centre.
Georgetown is the larger of the two, with most of the newer subdivisions, shops and the GO station. Acton is smaller and more rural, with older streets and lower prices in many cases. If you want acreage, the outskirts of town and the escarpment edge are where larger lots appear, though septic systems, wells and conservation-authority rules can complicate renovations. Ask your lawyer to check zoning and any Credit Valley Conservation restrictions on a property before you bid.
Canada's federal ban on foreign purchases of residential property runs to 1 January 2027. Ontario also charges a 25% non-resident speculation tax (NRST) on foreign buyers, on top of provincial land transfer tax. Check exemptions and refunds with a Canadian lawyer before an offer. Closing costs also include legal fees, title insurance and adjustments. Property tax is set by town and region.
