The Ramona setting
Ramona lies about 35 miles north-east of downtown San Diego and is much quieter than the coast. Poway is the nearest larger town to the west, while the Ramona Valley is recognised as a wine-growing area. The town had serious wildfire exposure in the 2007 Witch Creek fire, so check defensible-space requirements, brush clearance and insurance quotes before you commit. Summers are hot and winters mild, and most residents rely on cars.
