Brookline's village centres include Coolidge Corner (where the Kennedy birthplace is a national historic site), Brookline Village and Washington Square. Chestnut Hill sits at the town's western edge near Boston College. The Green Line light rail runs through the town to downtown Boston, and the medical area around Longwood is adjacent, which draws doctors and researchers. The town school system is a major pull for families.
Adjacent areas include Jamaica Plain, Brighton, Chestnut Hill and Roslindale, with Cambridge across the Charles River and Dorchester further south.
There are no federal restrictions on foreign buyers of homes. In Massachusetts, a real estate attorney is customary at closing and the seller pays deed excise tax. Financing for non-residents is limited, so many pay cash. Condo purchases need a close read of the master deed, reserves and any special assessments. If you sell later, FIRPTA withholding of 15% may apply (10% or 0% for qualifying residence purchases up to $1m and $300k).

No, it is a separate town with its own government and schools, though it is almost entirely surrounded by Boston.
Proximity to downtown Boston, universities, hospitals and strongly regarded schools combine with limited land supply.
Reserve funds, planned assessments, the condo trust documents and the owner-occupancy rules. Older buildings can need major capital works.
Some lenders offer foreign-national loans with larger deposits. Terms vary, so speak to a broker before bidding.
In Massachusetts it is standard practice for buyers to use a real estate attorney at closing.
