Why people buy here

Sandton concentrates corporate head offices, banks, hospitals, malls and international schools within a small footprint, and the Gautrain gives a quick link to OR Tambo airport and Pretoria. Expatriates on secondment, business owners and local investors drive demand. The cost is traffic congestion at peak hours and heavy reliance on private security and generators or solar.

If Sandton is too expensive, look east or west: Alberton sits further out, and Johannesburg as a whole offers a broader range, while Pretoria is a separate city to the north.

Sectional title: read the small print

Many Sandton homes are sectional title. Request the levy statement, the reserve fund balance and any planned special levies, as high-rise maintenance bills can be large. Our buying guide explains transfer, and the financing page covers non-resident lending.
