The Main Town (Główne Miasto) and Granary Island are the heritage core. Wrzeszcz is a lively, transport-linked district with older tenements and new blocks, Oliwa has green space and a cathedral, and Przymorze is known for its huge housing blocks near the beach. Gdańsk has an international airport, a port, a growing IT sector and a long tradition of shipping and trade. Winters are cold, summers are mild, and beach season is short.
EU and EEA citizens buy flats and houses freely. Non-EU buyers generally need a permit from the Interior Ministry for most property, with exemptions for apartments in many cases. Always check with a notary. Tax on civil-law transactions is normally 2% on the resale market, and notary fees are regulated. Confirm the land and mortgage register (księga wieczysta). See the Poland page, financing and consultation.
