Ikast is a town in Ikast-Brande Municipality in Central Jutland, about 15 km from Herning, with a textile and design heritage and a modern sports hall. The larger centres in our list are Herning, Silkeborg, Viborg, Holstebro, Skive and Skanderborg, all within roughly an hour's drive, and Billund airport is about an hour away. Residents work in Herning's industries and nearby towns, or commute along the E45 and rail line. It is a relaxed family location with lakes and heath nearby, without big-city prices.
Non-residents generally need Ministry of Justice permission to buy property, and holiday homes are the hardest category. If you live in Denmark, or are an EU citizen working there, the position is easier. Registering a deed costs DKK 1,850 plus 0.6% of the price. Danish buyers use a lawyer (advokat) or a registered estate agent, and a building condition report is standard. Mortgages are from Danish mortgage banks and need a local income.
