Buyer's guide: Hellerup
Hellerup is one of Denmark's most expensive postcodes, and homes for sale in Hellerup range from harbour-side apartments to large detached villas. RealEstateAbroad lists 89 properties with a median asking price of €1,604,918.
Asking prices from current RealEstateAbroad listings, in euros.
| Metric | Hellerup |
|---|---|
| Listings | 89 |
| Median asking price | €1,604,918 |
| Middle half (p25 to p75) | €1,002,823 to €2,407,712 |
| Median price per m² | €11,268 |
| Median size | 143 m² |
Apartments make up 53 listings, villas 32 and other houses 4. Bedroom counts are high, with 44 listings at five or more, 22 at four, 14 at three and 9 at two. Treat the bedroom figures cautiously, since the median size of 143 m² does not obviously match so many five-bedroom homes.

Hellerup sits in Gentofte, on the coast road north of central Copenhagen. It has its own S-train station, quick links into the city, tree-lined streets of villas and a long-established reputation among families and expat professionals. International schools in the north Copenhagen area add to the appeal, and the Øresund shoreline is close.
The obvious comparison is Copenhagen itself, which is nearby and has more variety. Odense and Aalborg are other cities, not neighbours, with far lower prices.
Non-residents need Ministry of Justice permission to buy Danish property, though people who have lived in Denmark for a qualifying period are usually exempt. Apartments are a common route for foreign owners, and holiday-home use is the hardest to get approved.

An andelsbolig is a share in a housing co-operative rather than ownership of the flat. Prices are often capped, so it differs from an ejerlejlighed.
