Apartments in India
Apartments for sale in India are the heart of our Indian inventory: 60,327 of 72,948 listings on RealEstateAbroad. Choice is vast and prices are low by international standards, but who may buy, how builders are regulated and how the title is checked are the questions that decide whether a flat is a good purchase.
Across all listings, the median asking price is €69,275, with the middle half from €36,947 to €152,406, and a median of €744 per m². Those converted figures are indicative, since listings are priced in rupees and exchange rates move. Apartments dominate the data, so national averages lean toward them. Two-bedroom homes lead with 21,230 listings, then three-bedroom with 19,186, one-bedroom with 8,871 and four-bedroom with 5,208.
Under India's foreign-exchange rules, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) can buy residential and commercial property, but not agricultural land, plantations or farmhouses. Foreign nationals of non-Indian origin who live abroad generally cannot buy property in India, although those resident in India under qualifying visas may have limited rights. Rules and exceptions change, so a lawyer's confirmation is essential. Payment must come through banking channels. See the India consultation guide.
Stamp duty differs by state, generally several percent, with registration fees on top. GST applies to under-construction flats but not to completed resale. Tax deducted at source may apply on payments and on NRI sales.
In India, a project's RERA number is the first thing to check, before the brochure.
For independent homes see houses and villas. Our India financing page covers NRI loans, and the mortgage calculator helps budget.

Generally only NRIs and OCIs, and certain foreign nationals resident in India. Other overseas foreigners are usually barred.
The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act sets rules for builders, including registration of projects and escrow of buyer funds. It gives buyers a complaints process.
Yes, listings are in rupees. Euro figures in our data are converted and change with exchange rates.
NRIs can repatriate proceeds within limits, subject to tax clearances and documentation. Take professional advice.
Delays happen. Check the builder's track record, RERA record and escrow arrangements.
