Buyer's guide: Kerava
Kerava is a town in Uusimaa, about 30 km north of Helsinki on the main rail line, and Kerava real estate is a popular choice for commuters wanting lower prices than the capital. Our 63 listings show a median asking price of just €105,000, though the spread is wide. Here is how to read the figures.
Asking prices from current RealEstateAbroad listings. In Finland apartments are often advertised at a debt-free price or a lower sales price, so check which one is quoted.

Commuter trains reach Helsinki Central in around 25 to 30 minutes, which is the town's main selling point. Kerava has a compact centre, lakes and woodland close by, and several districts of detached housing and low-rise blocks. Buyers are young families, Helsinki-region workers and people priced out of Helsinki itself.
Winter heating, snow clearance and parking should be part of your cost check.
Most apartments are shares in a housing company (asunto-osakeyhtiö), so you buy shares rather than a title deed. Ask for the managing agent's certificate, the maintenance charge and any planned renovations such as pipe or façade works, as the cost can be large. Transfer tax is 1.5% on housing-company shares and 3% on real property. Non-EU/EEA buyers may need a Ministry of Defence permit for real property.
Our Finland buying guide and mortgage guide give the sequence, and the Finland hub lists other cities.
Always compare the debt-free price and the monthly company charge, not just the headline number.

About 30 km. The train takes around half an hour.
Older small flats and some properties sold with company debt; compare debt-free prices.
For real property, possibly a Ministry of Defence permit. Apartments are generally simpler, but check.
1.5% on housing-company shares, 3% on real property.
Commuter demand supports rentals, but charges and maintenance matter.
