Houses in Finland
Houses for sale in Finland total 3,307 on RealEstateAbroad, about four in ten of the 8,194 properties we carry in the country. If your picture of Finland is a timber home beside a lake and a sauna, this is the category to search, and prices are often kinder than the headline reputation of the Nordics suggests.
Finland-wide, our current listings show a median asking price of €139,000, with the middle half between €69,500 and €240,014, and €1,976 per m² at the median. These cover every property type, so detached houses in Helsinki's suburbs can ask several times more, while rural homes may come in far below. The listings are asking prices from RealEstateAbroad, not completed sales.
The national bedroom spread, 1,121 four-bedroom and 380 homes with five or more, hints at how many larger family houses are available compared with city flats.
Unlike a flat, a Finnish house usually comes with its own plot, registered in the land register as a property (kiinteistö). Check:
See our Finland consultation guide for the buying process.
Heating can decide the monthly cost: oil, electric, geothermal, district or wood. A professional condition survey (kuntotarkastus) is standard in Finland and especially wise on older timber homes, where moisture and foundation issues occur. Ask for the energy certificate and the history of roof, drains and chimney work. Septic systems have legal upgrade requirements outside municipal sewerage.
Around the capital, Espoo and Vantaa have detached and terraced houses with fast rail links to Helsinki. Tampere and Turku offer more space for the money, Oulu serves the north's technology employers, and Jyväskylä sits in the Lakeland district. For lower-maintenance living, compare apartments in Finland.
A Finnish house is a plot, a heating system and a survey report as much as it is four walls.
Typical buyers are Finnish families, Nordic and Baltic holiday-home seekers and remote workers. Read the Finland mortgage guide and try the mortgage calculator before you fall for a lakeside listing.

Generally yes, with restrictions in some areas such as Åland or near sensitive sites. Confirm the rules for your nationality and the location with a Finnish lawyer.
Per square metre, not always. A house gives you land and more space but carries higher maintenance and transfer tax, while a flat comes with shared housing-company charges.
It is strongly recommended. Finnish buyers commonly commission a condition inspection, and older timber houses can hide moisture or structural problems.
Some lakeside and rural homes are used as holiday cottages. Check whether year-round residence is permitted and whether the building has winter heating and insulation.
Heating bills vary widely by system and insulation. Ask the seller for last winter's energy cost and look at the energy certificate.
