Fréjus has a Roman amphitheatre, a cathedral complex, a beachfront at Fréjus-Plage and a marina at Port-Fréjus. It adjoins Saint-Raphaël, which has the high-speed train station, and lies at the foot of the Esterel massif. Cannes is about 40 km east. Summers are crowded and traffic on the coast road is heavy, while winters are quiet and mild.
Check for noise, flood zones along the Argens and wildfire risk in wooded areas.
Foreigners can buy freely. A notaire handles the sale; resale costs are about 7 to 8% of the price in notary fees and taxes, and about 2 to 3% for new-build homes. After signing the compromis de vente you have a 10-day cooling-off period, and diagnostics (energy, asbestos, lead and more) are required. Annual taxes include taxe foncière and, on second homes, taxe d'habitation. Non-resident mortgages are possible, typically at lower loan-to-value.
See our France buying guide, financing page and France hub.
Budget about 7 to 8% for resale costs, and read the co-ownership minutes before you sign.
Saint-Raphaël, Roquebrune-sur-Argens, Sainte-Maxime and Grimaud are close neighbours. Cannes and Le Cannet are about 40 km east.
