Land in Bahamas
Land is the biggest category in the Bahamas on RealEstateAbroad: 1,537 of 4,663 listings, about a third. That reflects an island market where buyers often purchase a lot first and build later, or hold beachfront as a long-term asset.
Across all Bahamas listings the median asking price is €366,530, but the spread is huge: the lower quartile is €111,747 and the upper quartile €983,372. Land follows the same logic. A small inland lot on an Out Island can cost a few tens of thousands, while beachfront on New Providence or Paradise Island can cost millions. Compare lots by frontage, road access and utilities rather than by raw price.
The most developed market is New Providence and Paradise Island, with Nassau as the commercial centre. Grand Bahama has Freeport. Out Islands such as Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, Long Island and Andros appeal to buyers wanting space and quiet. See the Bahamas page for everything.
The Bahamas allows foreigners to own freehold property. Purchases of larger parcels generally require approval from the Bahamas Investment Authority, and the transaction should be recorded with the Central Bank for exchange-control purposes if you want to repatriate funds later. Stamp duty and other fees are significant and often shared between the parties. A Bahamian attorney must handle the title search; see our Bahamas buying guide.
Shipping materials to an Out Island adds time and expense, and skilled labour can be scarce. Get a contractor's quote before buying, and allow a contingency of at least a fifth of the construction budget. Compare the total with ready-built houses before committing.

Yes, freehold ownership is open to foreigners. Large parcels may need approval, and a Bahamian attorney should handle the process.
It can be. Family land held by many heirs needs a clean title before sale. Do not pay without a full search.
Stamp duty on conveyance and annual real property tax apply. Rates and who pays can vary, so confirm with an attorney.
Remote Out Islands like Andros and Long Island generally offer lower entry points than New Providence, though infrastructure is thinner.
