Land in Norway
Land for sale in Norway comprises 149 listings out of 2,946 in our database. Plots range from serviced building lots on town fringes to remote cabin sites by a fjord or in the mountains. Norway's land law is detailed, and the planning status matters far more than the view.
A plot is only buildable if it lies in a zone that allows it, typically under a municipal zoning plan (reguleringsplan). Ask whether the plot is a building lot (byggetomt) with approved connections, or merely land with some potential. Shoreline and mountain land can be subject to strict building bans, and agricultural land is protected.
Buying farmland or large forest holdings requires concession approval, often with a duty to live on the property. Smaller residential plots do not. A lawyer can confirm the classification of the specific title, which is recorded in the land register (Grunnboken).
See our Norway consultation guide, the financing page and the country page.
Many Norwegian plots are inaccessible for part of the year, and construction seasons are short at altitude. Contractors in popular cabin areas book months ahead, and materials delivery to remote sites adds cost. Think about winter road maintenance, which is often by a private road association whose fees you would share. Also consider building regulations on energy standards, which are strict. If you plan a holiday home, check whether it can be used year-round or only seasonally, and whether municipal rules cap rental use.

No. Zoning, shoreline rules and distance limits apply. Get written confirmation from the municipality.
Not for ordinary residential plots. Agricultural land requires concession.
It varies hugely. Connection to water, sewer and electricity can run to tens of thousands of euros on remote sites.
About 2.5% on freehold transfers, paid by the buyer.
