Apartments in Hungary
Apartments for sale in Hungary make up 131 of the 388 listings we hold on RealEstateAbroad for the country. Nearly all are in Budapest, which means that buying here is mainly a question of choosing a district and understanding the condominium rules of a typical Pest or Buda building.
Asking prices across all Hungarian listings have a median of €249,900, with the middle half from €81,823 to €782,952 and a median of €3,217 per m². The spread is wide because our sample mixes older flats in outlying districts with high-end homes in central Budapest. One-bedroom homes number 35 nationally and two-bedroom 64, which hints that mid-size flats are the staple.
Hungarian flats are described by district number (kerület). Central Pest districts hold historic buildings with high ceilings and courtyards, many renovated, while Buda has green, hilly neighbourhoods with quieter streets. Prefabricated panel blocks (panelház) from the socialist era are cheaper and common in outer districts. Browse Budapest listings, then compare houses in Hungary for suburban alternatives.
Non-EU buyers need approval from the government office. A Hungarian lawyer must countersign the contract. Read the Hungary consultation guide.
Foreign buyers include investors seeking rental income from students and professionals, as well as relocating workers. Budapest rents are strong compared with many Central European capitals, but purchase costs, taxes on rental income and regulation reduce net yields. Always model net income. A local property manager can help for remote owners.
In Budapest, the building and its condominium rules matter as much as the district.
Mortgages in forint are typical, and foreign-currency home loans to households were curtailed after the financial crisis. See financing in Hungary for the details.

Yes. There is no limit on how many you can own, but non-EU buyers need approval for each purchase.
Rules differ by district and building. Confirm local limits and condominium permission before buying.
A prefabricated concrete panel block from the socialist era. Cheaper, but check insulation and building condition.
It is small: 388 listings. Use it as a guide, not a full census.
Buyers pay an acquisition duty on the transfer, usually around 4%, though exemptions apply to some first-time buyers. Ask your lawyer.
